Definition: Gettysburg and Pickett's Charge

Lee and the Confederacy went as far North as Pennsylvania. Venturing for shoes, they wound up in Gettysburg. The battle:

1. Was the turning point of the War.

2. George Pickett of the Confederacy led a losing charge across an open field.

3. The Union won. It is the most costly battle of the war.

4. In November, Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address at the battlefield, in which he spoke about freedom, equality, uniting the country, and the sacrifices made by the soldiers. He begins the speech "Four score and seven years ago," alluding to the Declaration of Independence.
