Definition: The Directory (scroll down for answer)       Definition: The Directory Robespierre's killing-spree was too much to handle for the French people. Robespierre was guillotined in 1794. In the aftermath of the terror, a moderate (in the center) five-member executive branch known as the Directory took over alongside a two-house legislature.
