Definition: Radicals, Moderates, Conservatives

In the Legislative Assembly, there were:

Radicals (who sat on the left) – They represented people like the sans-culottes, or those laborers and merchants who wanted to totally change the way France conducted its government.

Conservatives (that sat on the right) - They were fine with having a limited monarch. Many of them were aristocratic émigrés, or royal supporters who emigrated from France during the violence.

Moderates (who sat in the middle) - They were still undecided on the role of the monarchy in France.
