Answer:

Through trade, conquest, and cultural diffusion, Islam spread through the Middle East, into Eastern and Northern (called Maghrib) Africa, and as far as Spain. The Almoravids, Almohads, and other Islamic Moorish Empires had a stronghold in Spain from 711 until 1492.

In Mali, Africa, a king named Mansa Musa spread Islam throughout the Empire c1300.
