Question: What Revolutionary War battles do I need to know?

Answer: The following tend to be the most important of the military events:

1. Washington crosses the Delaware in 1776 to win at Trenton and later Princeton.

2. Saratoga - 1777 - The turning point, as Burgoyne surrenders to Gates. The French sign an alliance with the US after this battle.

3. Valley Forge - 1777/1778 - Washington holds his army together in the winter.

4. Yorktown, 1781. Cornwallis surrenders his army to Washington.
