Definition: Transcontinental Railroad

A Railroad that linked the entire country together.  The Central Pacific (with the help of Chinese immigrants) built east from Sacramento, California. The Union Pacific built west from Council Bluffs, Iowa. The Golden Spike was hammered at Promontory Summit, Utah in 1869. For all on-location videos about the Railroad, click here.
