Roosevelt Field, Long Island ... now the site of a shopping mall, is where Lindbergh took off in the Spirit of St. Louis. To answer the question above, Roosevelt Field is named for Quentin Roosevelt, Theodore's son. I bet you didn't know that! On July 14, 1918, he was shot down by two German fighters, and he died behind enemy lines. There his body was buried, though his grave was later moved to rest beside that of his brother Ted, in France.
