The largest volcanic eruption ever happened on the island of Santorini ... it blew out the entire middle of the island, and threw ash all over the world. It also destroyed an advanced civilization that some historians consider to be Plato's Atlantis. At Akrotiri, there is a massive excavation attempting to prove this theory. Frescoes of people boxing, and catching scores of fish were found from an era which beforehand was not thought to be so advanced.
