One
of the saddest days in Brooklyn happened in 1957 -- when Ebbets Field
crumbled, and the Dodgers moved west to Los Angeles. The New York
Giants soon followed suit to San Francisco, and California became a
legitimate baseball locale. Today, the Dodgers and Giants have been
accompanied by the
A's, Angels, and Padres. Some of the stadiums are pictured on this
page. LA Dodger fans are notorious for arriving in the 4th inning, and
leaving in the 7th. People in Brooklyn have never forgiven Walter
O'Malley, the owner who
moved
the beloved Dodgers from Brooklyn. Inevitably, National League
baseball came back to New York in 1962, when the NY Mets had their
inaugural season. And in 2001 -- BASEBALL
FINALLY RETURNED TO BROOKLYN ... bringing tears of joy to the
children of the 1950s. |
