Brown v. Board of
Education of Topeka overturned Plessy v. Ferguson. Contrary to
popular belief, there were 5 different cases that were combined here.
Topeka was used as the forerunner because Kansas was a border state,
and to some, the black schools were better than the white schools in
Topeka. Linda Brown went to the school below, that has been turned
into a National Monument. Oliver Brown was a well respected member of
the community, and his name was chosen to go first. Thurgood Marshall
led the legendary charge against segregation in schools.
