Question:
What religion did
William Penn found Pennsylvania for?
Answer:
Quakers
As explained earlier, Pennsylvania had no established church, which thereby made the
colony more tolerant than places governed by the Puritans.
Religious toleration was part of what Penn proclaimed to be a
Holy Experiment.
However, religious differences in the colony hurt its long-term
success. Another
colonial form of tolerance important to know is
Maryland’s Act of Toleration, which
granted freedoms to Christian sects.
