Definition: Peggy Eaton Affair

Most of Jackson's cabinet resigned because they hated Peggy Eaton. Jackson took her under his wing. Eaton was accused of adultery, and Jackson felt this was unwarranted. The treatment reminded him of similar accusations against his late wife. John C. Calhoun resigned as Vice President. Martin Van Buren would succeed him.
