Elizabethan Age
This refers to the
Renaissance period in England that coincided with the reign of Queen
Elizabeth from 1558-1603. Elizabeth was a patron of the arts, and
sponsored artistic endeavors. During this time,
William Shakespeare
of England wrote and produced comedies like a The Merchant of
Venice, and tragedies like Hamlet and Macbeth.
Note: The Renaissance
experienced in England, France, and Germany is known as the
Northern Renaissance.
