ALTITUDE AND THE COCA TEA

That's 3,765 Meters! Cusco is in the mountains ... so flying there from Lima means going up over 11,000 feet in one hour. That's not a good thing! Many travelers are affected by the altitude, and some get very sick. There is medication you can take for it, but we chose to use over-the-counter ginkho biloba. For travelers who get sick, there is the Coca Tea pictured above. However, this contains the plant that cocaine comes from. So, you won't find it in the US ... it's similar to what used to be in Coca Cola in the 19th century.
