10 TIPS ON RENTING A CAR FOR A ROADTRIP THAT WILL SAVE YOU SERIOUS CASH.

Before I get into it, let’s first consider one thing. In the short-term, it is cheaper to take your own car on a trip. But, if I’m going over 2000 miles in a week, I would rather destroy someone else’s vehicle.  So here are some useful things to consider that can make your trip MUCH CHEAPER.

1. It is way cheaper to rent a car in Chicago than it is Salt Lake City. The bigger the city, the cheaper the car. So, always start your crazy road trip in a big city. It is also cheaper to fly into the big hubs, so that works out well too.

2. Try not to rent your car out of the airport. Airports tend to have higher prices for vehicles. This is not always the case, but shop around. On our last roadtrip, we found it 200 dollars cheaper to drop off a car in NYC, rather than JFK airport. Or once, when arriving in Vancouver, I found it to be hundreds of dollars cheaper to rent it out of downtown. An investment of a $10 cab from the airport to the city, paid off big dividends.
