Answer: After Gettysburg:

1. Grant took over command of the Army.

2. He chased Lee through the Battle of the Wilderness, Spotsyvania Courthouse, Petersburg, and ultimately ...

3. Lee surrendered to Grant at Appomattox Courthouse (that's the name of the town, there's no courthouse) on April 9, 1865.

4. There were generous terms of surrender, and Lee's army returned home. The war ended with over 600,000 lives lost.
