1. Trench warfare becomes more prevalent after Gettysburg.

2. Biggest man-made explosion in the US to its day at the Battle of the Crater (detonated underground mine).

3. Iron-clad ships.

4. Great improvements in submarine and torpedo technology.

5. Use of telegraph
