Question:
What
territories did Germany secure under Hitler?
(scroll down for
answer)
Answer: Hitler obviously disobeyed the
Treaty of Versailles as Germany remilitarized the Rhineland on the
German-Belgium border. He annexed (added to Germany) Austria through
what was called Anschluss. He also was
given the Sudetenland, an area of Czechoslovakia where the people
spoke German. At the Munich Conference
of 1938, western powers agreed to allow Germany to take it. British
Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain said that this action would give
"peace in our time." He was wrong, as it only made Hitler hungry for
more. The Munich Conference is an example of
appeasement, or giving into the aggressor’s demands to keep
peace.
