Definition: Pearl Harbor

On December 7, 1941 the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor by air. They were reacting to a US oil embargo. The sneak attack resulted in 2,300 American soldiers killed, many of whom were aboard the USS Arizona.

In his "Infamy" speech, FDR asked Congress to declare war on Japan. Shortly after, Germany declared war on the US.
